Barolo D.O.C.G. Baudana
Baudana: a gem hidden among the historic crus of Serralunga.
The Barolo DOCG Baudana bears the name of the family; it is a prestigious Cru, rather uniquely, the soil here is a mix of both Formazioni di Lequio and Sant’Agata fossil marls that show a peculiar bluish tone.
Technical sheet
Growing
Luigi and Fiorina have always tended their vines with the utmost care. There is an episode that really proves their care. Summer of 2008, two days after a serious hailstorm that hit Serralunga: their vineyards showed no signs of damage because the couple had ‘cleaned’ every single bunch to make sure ruined berries wouldn’t affect the rest of the cluster.
Vintage 2019 and winemaking
2019 was marked by an early bud break, late flowering and a progressively slow ripening. In Serralunga d’Alba, fruit is usually picked in mid-October, with a delicate fermentation in open-top tini followed by submerged (cappello sommerso) maceration.
Tasting Notes
A noble garnet hue also anticipates aromas of red fruits, candied flowers and cedar lying on hints of leather and spices. Warm, soft and dry, it has full-bodied tannins, but balanced by a fresh and gentle acidity.
Cru
An excellent MGA

Baudana is one of the finest Barolo crus, with the ability to make wines of extraordinary structure and longevity.
