Barolo D.O.C.G. Cerretta

The most austere among the Barolos of Baudana

Barolo Cerretta comes from Nebbiolo grapes harvested from the vineyards of the same name located in Serralunga. The bunches come from vineyards composed of different biotypes of Nebbiolo, and represent an incredible legacy of Luigi's work.

  • Growing

Luigi and Fiorina have always tended their vines with the utmost care. One episode really illustrates their care. Summer of 2008, two days after a serious hailstorm that hit Serralunga: their vineyards showed no signs of damage because the couple had ‘cleaned’ every single bunch to make sure ruined berries wouldn’t affect the rest of the cluster.

  • Vintage 2019 and winemaking

2019 was marked by an early bud break, late flowering and a progressively slow ripening. Differently from Baudana, the kinetics of fermentation of this vineyard is much slower. Fermentation was followed by submerged cap maceration.

  • Tasting Notes

An austere Barolo with a recognizable mineral expression; aromas of cherries and raspberries emerge from the glass with elegance, those of menthol and leather have profundity. Cerretta is distinguished by elegant tannins and a great freshness that balances at best with ripe fruits.

Cerretta is a dive into pure Formazione di Lequio. The wine is brooding yet austere, enriched with the balsamic tones of mint that are so typical of the village and of this cru.
